Making the connection

It's time to add your site's FTP info to FileZilla so you can upload/download your site's files.
Hopefully, you still have FileZilla open, but if not, open it up to full screen ...
Look for this at the top of the FileZilla screen.

You will need to click on the little computer graphic which is right below the "File" menu option. Don't click on the downward pointing
arrow, as this just brings up a list of previously entered sites.
Once you click on the computer graphic, a popup menu will again magically appear, and you will see a box with a yellow folder that says "My Sites".

At the bottom left of that box is a button that says "New Site". This button is where you will create the information for connecting to your hosted site. You will need the information that your host gave you when you purchased hosting (account user/pass) and your domain name, or your site's IP number if the domain name hasn't resolved across the net yet.
Click on the "New Site" button, and a new submenu with a blue highlighted "New Site" will appear and you can change the name to identify which site this will connect to. For example, you can change it to the name of your domain you will be connecting to. Whatever you want it to be is fine.

Once you've changed the name to what you want, keep that popup menu open, and do not click on "Ok", "Connect" or "Discard" as we will be entering the FTP information in the right hand portion of the filezilla popup in the next tutorial!
Enter the FTP Info Next...
Alrighty, lets move on to entering your site's FTP information so you can connect to your hosted account.
Look for this at the top left of the popup menu.

See the "Host" text? This is where you will enter you sites full domain name or IP number. The full domain name will look like this in our example,
"articlesite.com". Some hosts will want you to enter "ftp.articlesite.com". You can skip the "Port" box unless your host has told
you a specific port number you must use.
When Should I Use The IP Number?
If you cannot connect to your site's files using the domain name, you can use your site's IP number instead. Most time this won't be necessary unless you have just purchased a domain name and the domain hasn't resolved (not found) through out the internet's main servers.
Now, skip the "ServerType" dropdown menu, and look at the "Logon Type" dropdown menu. Change the default "Anonymous" to "Normal". This will make sure your specific username for the FTP account and password are automatically used when you try to connect.
Next, move down to the "User" textbox, and enter your hosting account user name.
The next box is the "Password" text box. Enter your hosting account's password in that box, overwriting the existing dots...

If you've finished entering all the above info, you can test if it all works! Click on the "Connect" button at the bottom of the popup menu and watch the top block of the Filezilla script. This will show you if the domain name, user & pass are correct. If there is anything wrong, you will see an error message identifying which part of the connection failed.

Somethings Wrong!
If you get an error message, look at the error message that stopped the connection. Is it the domain name not found? Try your site's IP number. If it's the user or password, make sure you didn't paste an empty space in the front or back of your user/pass. If the user/pass is still a problem, re-enter each, then try to connect again!
